Upon arriving at the hospital parking ramp we immediatly got confused trying to get into the hospital. We needed the second floor skywalk, which seems simple enough. Well the ramp skywalk is on the second story but the stairway is marked '1'. We went up a floor and when we looked out the window we realized there is only one skywalk. It's on the floor marked '1'. So like tourists, we wandered back down and went across to the hospital. Once in the hospital we found the stairs and went up a floor, but for some reason (no one there could explain it) there was no handle on the door to get out of the stairway. So like tourists again we went back down, only there was no handle on that door either. We were trapped in the stairway. Robyn saw a man in the hallway through the window and knocked to get his attention. He freed us, held my hand and took us to the elevator. He explained what floor we needed and gave us directions. I felt a little simple, but that's not new for me. We reached our destination at last. We said a little prayer for Canyon and started our wait.
Of course Canyon had to go through with the drinking of the "poop lube" the day before his hospital adventure and that was interesting but what was much worse on him was the not eating. And worse yet was nothing to drink after midnight. By his 10:00 appointment (which was really at about 10:20) he had a wicked thirst going on. He said his tongue was so dry it was sticking to his lip. Robyn wanted to show a non-parched tongue for comparison purposes. I'll let them show you..

Two dorks in a waiting room |
When they finally took us back to Canyon's.. um.. get ready room I knew it was going to be a long day. Somehow, Robyn found a way to tell the nurse that it was my 50th birthday. They asked if I wanted a birthday scope, but I politely declined (for now anyway, my time is coming). The nurse offered me a consolation birthday gift, which I accepted.
No one else thought of this gift |
The nurse told Canyon to disrobe and put on his gown and what-not. (I think a what-not is what you tie the gown shut with) Here is a picture of Canyon trying to figure out what the little hole in his gown is for, he noticed it is right over his nipple.

Too sexy, huh girls? |
When they brought in his IV bag, I told him I was pretty sure they were going to use that hole to hook him up.

What the heck is 'Lactated Ringers'? |
That is when the anistesiologist..anestetisiologist...gas passer came in. It was the guy that rescued us from the stairway. I was going to ask him if he would draw me a map so I could get back to the car, but he was way too busy. He explained the procedure and told Canyon he would give him some laughing gas before they put in the IV. Then they sent us to the waiting room and took Canyon away.
While Canyon is getting his scope, let me take this moment to let you know about the mystery game we have been playing on my blog. I have given you a couple pictures of an object we are working on at Speck and have been letting you guess what it is.(it's not a bowling ball) Bad news, the client that wanted it has changed her mind. She will pay for the time and material so far used, but she wants us to make something different. So the game is over and here is a picture and explaination of what it was.
we may finish it for the showroom |
It is a giant concrete sprayed vase with a glass mosaic overlay. She has a mirrored alcove just inside her door where this would have been epoxied in place. To bad, it would have been sweet. Her next idea may be pretty cool too, I'll keep you posted.
Back to the scope story. The doctor came into the waiting room within an hour and told us Canyon was in recovery. The good news is Canyon has no issues inside. As a matter of fact, the doc said it was the 'cleanest' scope he had ever seen. If you have a weak stomach, skip this next photo..
From the top, and from the bottom. No problem. |
The bad news is, they still have no answers for his bleeding. They have some nuclear x-ray they want to try next week. Let's pray for some answers then.
Next a nurse came in and told us we could see Canyon. He told us that when they gave him the laughing gas, all their voices started sounding funny. He said the last thing he remembered was trying to raise his eyebrows up and down (he didn't tell me why he was trying to do this, I'm sure it is from his mother's side of the family). I took a video with my phone of his recovery. It has sound on my phone but I can't hear it when I play it here. I hope it works for you.
Isn't that hilarious? Ha ha dang my eyes are watering. Ha ha ha.. what? heh heh.. what? It didn't work? What do you mean it didn't work? Dang it! Crappy phone video! Oh well, trust me, it was a laugh riot.
After his recovery, we found our way out to the ramp and headed for home. I dropped those two off and headed for work. I wanted to show you a neat table we installed in a local resturant/pub called Saint's.
A place for everyone |
They liked it so much, they bought us lunch.
A saint's burger and sweet potato fries. Yum. |
Here is another project we are just completing. It is for WHO radio. Bob Quinn is the host of a program called 'the Big Show'. He wanted a portable table for brodcasting from different locations. I think he will love this.

We do some really different projects for a real diverse crowd. Where else could I do something so cool?
After work I headed out to a side job. I'm going to do some unique things for this couple as well. We discussed different ideas for an hour or so and how to procede and then I headed home just in time for Idol. My favorites made it through but a really good singer was sent packing. I guess at this stage a good singer goes home each week. That about wraps up this birthday. It's gonna be tough to top this one, we will see what happens next year. Robyn and I have an anniversary coming up, maybe I will get scoped for our 21st.
Speaking of good singers, you have to check out this link, and watch it until the end, it made my eyes tear up.

Had a pretty awesome birthday....at the hospital. Glad there was no bad report, but still you have to go through another test for Canyon. It will be nice whenever they find out so he doesn`t have to go through the pain when he has these attacks, or whatever you call it. Really, Dan, I did leave a message on your phone, wishing you a happy birthday. We are all praying for Canyons next test to be the one where you find a solution to his problem.....Good Luck next week Canyon. Lov ya.
That video was amazing! They will figure out what is going on with Canyon, hopefully sooner than later! Love you! Praying with you!
What the heck happened to the video of Canyon's recovery? That was the whole reaseon I watch this blog. Dangit.
