Unfortunately for Canyon, at 4 in the morning it started again. It really scares him (and us). His cramps got very bad every 15 minutes or so and he was in the bathroom all night and morning. Robyn and I got ready for church, but decided to stay home and keep an eye on him. The doctor told us if he started cramping non-stop to bring him in, otherwise wait till Monday. I ran to the shop real quick to put finish on a cabinet I was making for a side job (more on that later) when Robyn called and told me to hurry home because Canyon was getting worse.
Here is where this story takes a turn for the better. As I was driving home I prayed for Canyon. I asked God if I could have a favor. I said, "Not that I want them, but would You please let me have Canyon's pains so he can rest". Simple enough.
With-in an hour of arriving home I was doubled over sitting on the toilet. With my arms tucked into my gut, I grunted "Thank you Lord". And Canyon slept for several hours.
GOD IS GREAT!
Canyon's cramps did return but he didn't pass anymore blood. He did however miss several days of school. He texted me when I was at work and he and Robyn were at the doctor. His text read...
Since you will be turning 50 this month, I think we should have father and son colonoscopys.
He is a funny boy.
I will write more when I know more.
Let's move on to more exciting things. Spring has sprung. Check out the buds on my tree..
life anew |
So since it is spring, we thought we better get started working on the yard. First stop..
She will get her shopping in one way or another |
We got a 6 step program for the lawn. I've used it before and our yard was lush and beautiful. We stopped doing it for the last couple years to save some money, but the yard suffered. She also saw a birdhouse that I know she will go back and get. (It's ok, I liked it too)
This next item is off track a little, but I pass it everyday on the way to work. I have always been intrigued so I finally stopped to check it out.
A light house in Iowa? |
It's called the Paragon Tower. It is located in a small office complex on the north western outskirts of Des Moines. The picture on it is supposed to represent the wild prairies of Iowa. It is even pretty at night. Here's a pic..
No shipwrecks here. |
I was wondering how often they had to repaint it, and at what cost. I found out that would never be a problem.
somebody spent some time here |
It is a mosaic of 1 inch by 1 inch tiles. Wow! It is over 100 feet tall.
Let's get back on track here. You remember this side job I did?
Beautiful tile backsplash (its no tower but it's pretty) |
They decided they wanted a microwave but didn't want to cover the tile, so I fabricated a small cabinet to go above the micro, and stained it to match. This is the cabinet I was working on when Canyon was sick. It came out pretty nice.
short people will not be using this cabinet |
I will make a door that hinges on top. It will have these two steel plates her father was making. I will wrap them in oak and we will put tinted glass behind them and back light it. Should be awesome.

sweet adition to a sweet kitchen |
I have been blessed to have several side jobs going at a time. We are giving 10% of the money to God and he keeps providing more. We have never been so blessed.
Speaking of blessed. We were excited to get to see my nephew Dean get baptized. It was a very special occasion. Dean's girlfriend (Martha) was baptized at the same time. We stopped by to see my sister Debbie on the way there.
Debbie is a busy little bee |
Here is Martha taking the plunge..
Martha explains that she want's everyone to know she follows Christ |
Raised in his likeness |
Then it was Deano's turn..
What an awesome day.
Then it was back to the old grind. My job may be dirty but the work we churn out is so neat. Here is a pic of a day at work.

Look real close, I'm in there |
And here is a pic of a new project we just finished.
Yen yang coffee table and matching end table |
Super cool with the colored galss, mirror and pink inlaid geod (not sure how to spell that).
Work has been going pretty good too. We have been keeping busy, here is a pic of the shop with a couple kitchens formed and ready to pour.
I love working here |
Well, I have to get ready for small group now so I will bid you adeu. But always remember, God hears your prayers. You may not get the answer you want, but He always hears you.
Peace
Dan

what an awesome way to spend your life.....you indeed are servents of god. Your life sounds so full. It was neat to see Dean get baptized, and Martha. Dan, the work you have been doing is great. It is hard to imagine what the forms are going to look like, but I bet it will be great. I am still driving the 2011 Tyota Cayrola....I love it, but my car will be back soon. I do not have much going on, but hope all is well with Canyon. God Bless
Love the blog...You are a good writer..sort of.
Just kidding...I love your writing. Its funny and witty. I find myself sitting here laughing out loud and sometimes praying for you. Really powerful stuff...you should be a professional writer. Seriously.
Love you. Steve
I concur with those who spoke before me. The baptism brought tears to my eyes. Shonna just left, she was here and did my hair. Exciting stuff! I might have to go to the bar and show it off. Well, maybe after the Cubs game gets over with. Can't see that at Stormy's. Love you!
