RAIN RAIN GO AWAY

Canyon asked if he could have a friend over  Saturday night.  The condition we put on his request was that his friend (Hai) and he go to church with us Sunday morning.   So on the way to church I asked Hai if he usually went to church.  He said his family goes to St. Bonifice when they go.   I was thinking that our church may be a shock to his system because it is nothing like St. Bonifice at all.  It was a fantastic service, perfect in fact for Canyon, us and Hai.  There was a magician, a rapper and the message was about parenting.  Actually it was more about raising your children to have a good moral conscience.  Here is a link to Point of Grace.  Go to media at the bottom of the home page then select 'God and Country' and watch or listen to the service. (There was some technical difficulty with the magicians mic but the magic is pretty cool.)

Hai said he had never seen church like that and said he wants to come back.  Praise God.

After Church I had Canyon scoop poop and I mowed the back yard.  I think it was near 100 degrees.  I let Canyon know that the front yard was his.  I went in to cool down and made some calls to find somebody to go to the golf tournement with me.  I could find no one on such short notice so I guilted Robyn into coming with me.
We had some difficulty finding the parking lot because signage was poor, but we did finally find it and we jumped on a shuttle to get to the golf course.  The "shuttle" was actually a charter bus and was air conditioned.  I went back to use the restroom in the back of the bus while we waited for it to take off.  My suggestion to you is to sit down when you do your business on a bus, because the bus abruptly took off and I almost went head first into the toilet.
Once there, we walked onto the golf course right at the time the leaders were coming by.  I took a video (with my phone because cameras weren't allowed) but for some reason it is not there,  but here is a video that I took with my phone at my niece Shonna's wedding.  It's pretty grainy but it makes me smile everytime I watch it.  It is my niece Ashley, Robyn and my sister Sherry doing a line dance.  I hope the sound works, if not sing to yourself.

I don't think they are ready for 'So You Think You Can Dance' but they're close.
Anyway, we followed the leaders around for a couple holes and found the 312 Party Deck.  It was a makeshift bar at the 14th green.  I don't know how the golfers could putt because the noise was just a bit louder than a golf clap.  The crowd was a little to big, and since we have a friend who lives in a house on the fifteenth fareway,  we decided to walk down that way and see if there was a party on the deck.  Sure enough as we walked by we were called up to the deck by several friends.  When we were offered a beer we were extremely grateful.  Did I mention that it was almost 100 degrees?  Robyn spent several minutes with the icy cold can held to the back of her neck.  We were even more grateful when the party moved indoors into the AC.  We hitched a ride back to our car from our friends and were excited to take showers and get to bed.

Monday at work we had to prep a garage floor for an epoxy job.  It was rather warm again the crack filler was setting up quickly so we had to work at a rapid pace.  It was epoxied and sealed Tuesday.  Here are a couple pics of the finished product.

It's a shame to park a car on it.

The sealer makes it shine

Tuesday Robyn took Canyon down to the courthouse for his ticket hearing.  The judge said she would drop the $450 ticket if we would go and get him insured and she would drop the $150 ticket if we went and got the car registered.  So Robyn and Canyon went and got those things taken care of and went back to the courthouse to finish the case.  The judge made him pay the $150 ticket for driving with out a liscense and $120 in court costs.  She then told him that when he went to get his liscense, it was up to the D.O.T. to decide if they would suspend it or not.  He would find out Friday.
When I got home the heat wave was finally breaking, but this was rolling in..

I don't think the heavy stuff will come down for a while

The western part of Iowa is experiencing some flooding, and it may aproach record levels with-in the next couple of weeks.  I tried to organize a trip to Sioux City (my home town) to help with sand bagging or what ever was needed, but Robyn and I couldn't make it happen.  I heard on the news that if we got some rain here, there was the possiblity of flooding here.  Well, Wednesday we got some rain..

And it kept on raining, torrential amounts through out the day.  It was still raining Thursday all day long, and after work My sister debbie asked if I would stop by her house and fix her bathroom vent fan.  She was at work but the painter was supposed to be there.  After that was done, I went and picked up an old friend I used to work with.  I wanted to have a beer with him and catch up, but I also wanted to give him a new devotional.  Point of Grace gives them out every three months.  I have several people that I love to give them to, and sometimes they call and ask when I can get one to them.  I really like that.   Here is a pic of my friend, Steve..

Canyon calls him his hippy friend

It was getting late and Robyn had ribs in the crock pot so I took Steve home and headed home.  There were some very dark clouds on the horizon and I knew more heavy rain was on the way.

Friday I stopped at a creek that I cross everyday on the way to work.  It had rained hard just a few hours before and more rain was on the way.  Here is a video I took of the creek..

I stopped by on the way home and took another video

So the water has receeded for now but we really need it to dry out for a while.  Luckily, rain dosen't effect our work load.  We have so many projects going on that we hired a new kid to help out in the forming area, and anywhere else he's needed.  Here's a pic.  His name is Ben.

A quick learner

Ben is going to school to be a dentist.  I call him Hermie.  I told him he was an elf and elfs make toys.  I hope he dosen't run away with Rudolph.
Seriously, we need him at the shop.  We have several large projects going on and an extra set of hands is much appreciated.  Here's a look at what is going on at the shop..

Next week is going to be a big week with installs.  We were able to do a small install today between rainfalls.  It's a table on a deck, check it out..

looks sharp

artsy fartsy,.. I like it

Canyon went down to get his liscense and the D.O.T. decided to suspend it for 6 months from the date of the ticket.  May 8th.  It's like ground hog day, 6 more months of driving him around.  It may be a blessing in disguise.  At least the streets are safe.

Well, I think the rain and hail is going to let up Saturday, at least for a day.  I can't wait to sleep in.  We'll see if that happens.

Peace

Dan

Sorry, Canyon, the time will fly by. I like that deck table. If you need some more help, maybe think about Deano, Leigh says he is doing well. Not enough hours right now though. I work at Stormy's tomorrow but am off next Sunday and would like to attend church with you guys.

Watch the head first plunge into the toilet...Not fun. I put some sioux city flood pictures on mine tonight.
Keep up the good work. And by the way, I think Deano is a good choice for the job also. He is a hard worker and I think he needs to find a work place to call home.
